Instructions: Carefull cut your egg box into sections as shown on the right. If you are quite small you may need some help from an adult for this part of the project. |
Take the two diamond shape that you cut from inside the box and poke them upside down into the holes. |
Cut the lid of the egg box into about 2/3 and 1/3. Keep the bigger section for the bonnet of your racing car.Use the other part to cut shapes for the windshield or even make it into a detatchable roof. |
Draw a circle onto your scrap card, use an egg cup as a template or something of a similar size. Use this as a template to cut out three more wheels. Carefully poke a hole in each side of the eggbox and push a straw through the egg box to form an axle for your wheels. Attach your wheels and trim off any excess straw sticking out. |
Attach the bonnet, headrest and windscreen, securing with sticky tape. Fill in any big holes and cover the back axle (straw) with scruched up newspaper for form the seats. |
Make your paper mache (instructions here) and layer over the whole car forming it into any shape you like. Cover over the edges and make them smooth, this will make it easier to paint and it will look much better. Build up a few layers to make your sports car sturdy and to keep the wheels on. |
Once your paper mache is dry you can paint your car any colours you like. Leave it to dry for a few hours before adding your final decorations. |
We used tin foil to make hub caps, headlights and a bumper. You can use any kind of decorations you like and maybe even customise it for a special person with their own personl registration plate! |
