Instructions: Tear the newpaper into small strips, dont use scissors as you want the edges to be uneven. Keep the pieces quite small, if they are too big you won't be able to smooth them flat onto the balloon.Blow up your balloon to the size you want your piggy bank to be. |
In your plastic bowl mix about a tablespoon of glue with a cup full of water to make a weak gluey solution. Add some of your strips of paper a handful at a time and push them into the glue to get them nice and sticky. Take out the strips of paper one at a time and speread over the balloon, you can leave a hole around the tied end to hold onto. |
Build up layer on layer of paper mache untill it's 5 or six layers thick. If it gets too wet leave it to dry for a while then add more layers. The more layers you add the stronger it will be. Leave it to dry out completely, overnight is better. |
When your paper mache is completly dried out you can pop the ballon and remove it. |
Now you nned to add the feet, snout and ears to your paper mache pig, we used an egg box but bottle tops do just as well. Cut out your shapes and secure with sticky tape. |
Next you need to cover the ears, feet and snout with more paper mache and leave to dry. |
When your paper mache pig is completly dry you can paint it all over, then leave it to dry once more before you add the details. |
Now you can paint on some eyes, mouth, nostrills and a curly tail. If you want to use the pig as a money box you can get an adult to cut a slot in the top big enough to fit a coin through. |
